TOPIC:- Borders- Should the lines be erased?
What are Borders?
• A border is a physical or political line that separates geographical areas.
They divide countries, states, and cities from one another. Ever since
ancient times, borders have been a part of our society but they were always
changing. A cause of such variations in a geographical area is due to various
people or political reasons in a particular region. This can also be seen in
the modern world. For instance, the present scenario in India and Pakistan
with regards to Jammu and Kashmir. Another example is the conflict in the
Taliban and Afghanistan.
Points in Favor of the Topic:-
• Borders define a country by giving it its shape which may also enhance its
beauty and gives it its own identity.
• Secondly, borders do not just represent a geographical divide but also a
cultural one. Especially, in terms of Language, Tradition, Way of Living,
Livelihood, Food, and many more aspects.
• They also differentiate the countries in terms of economy and how their
government operates. The biggest example is the herculean difference
between North and South Korea.
• There are also many differences that occur when we travel from one place to
another. There are many changes in the environment such as the climate and
weather, Change in the type of Soil, Change in the vastness of the water bodies,
Flora and Fauna of that region, Type of land like Mountains, Deserts, etc.
Points not in Favor of the Topic:-
• Every country wants to grow and develop in terms of size but the
space available on our planet is only finite. As a result, countries find
themselves in conflict with their neighboring countries.
• Because of such fights and conflicts a huge military presence is
required at the border for the security of the civilians. That is why a
huge amount of expenditure comes upon the shoulders of the
government to spend on the army and on the growth of the military.
• There are spy and intelligence officials which are present in the
adversary’s army.
• There is a wrong impact or message conveyed and instilled in the
minds of the youth.
My Opinion OR Conclusion
• There are always positives and negatives to something. In the same way,
Borders do have some beneficial and adverse effects . We should not only just
try to make up more stronger borders rather we should try to improve and
build up more better relations with the surrounding countries. It can be
achieved by increasing trade and showing more interest in signing a peaceful
and friendly treaty. Countries should help each other in their times of need,
say during a natural calamity or even a large-scale man-made disaster. They
should also try to provide one another with opportunities for employment,
education, industries, etc. Lastly, I just want to say that according to me- Yes,
ofcourse borders should be present but the countries should be allied to one
another. It should be a Give and Take relationship between the two which
would help to build up a more stronger and better relationships, and as a
result, bring us as a species closer to world peace.
